Description Description Carex testacea is native to New Zealand and is a tufted, evergreen perennial with narrow arching leaves. During summer it has green-olive leaves which go red during the winter months, supplying interests all year round, growing to between 40-60cm producing brown insignificant flowers and is great for supplying movement in a garden. Carex testacea grows best in a sheltered position on free draining soil and full sun but it can tolerate partial shade. It has an RHS hardiness ring of H5 meaning it can tolerate temperatures down to -15C to -10C Carex testacea is useful in many gardens, including: costal; gravel; patio; cottage; informal; low maintenance; sloped gardens; ground cover; prairie planting and flower borders and beds.
